Jonathan Dearden was baptised in Sheffield on 28 December 1772, the son of James (a cutler). Leader (1905-06)1 listed a Jonathan, son of James (deceased), who was apprenticed to Jonathan France in 1784. He became a Freeman in 1797. Jonathan Dearden became a table knife manufacturer based at Garden Street and was listed in directories in 1821, 1822, and 1825. Presumably, he had a family connection with John Dearden, the scissors makers. Jonathan died after ‘a long illness’....
