This was likely Samuel Garlick, born in Hathersage in about 1785, who by 1841 had settled in Hammond Street, Netherthorpe. Directories listed him as a pen, pocket, and lock knife manufacturer. In 1851, he was described in the Census as a ‘Master Cutler’, who employed two men and had been joined by Samuel, his son. Samuel Garlick died in 1852, aged 67, and was buried on 22 November in P....
