This cutler appeared in the Sheffield directory (1774), located at Pond Well Hill (where Porter Brook met the River Sheaf, close to the present bus station). The ‘son’ was Andrew Lindley, who had been apprenticed to his father and became a Freeman in 1761. By 1787, the address was Pond Lane and the enterprise was styled as a merchant and manufacturer of cutlery wares.
