In 1778, Joseph Tibbitts (the name was spelled variously) registered a silver mark (‘JT’) at the Assay Office. He was a ‘plate worker’ at Gibraltar. His name did not appear in the Sheffield directory (1787), but a decade later he was listed as a pen knife cutler and fruit blade maker at 77 Campo Lane. His trade mark was ‘SELL’. He died on 20 October 1800 at Hartshead and was buried at St Peter & St Paul churchyard (Hull Packet, 28 October 1800). ....
