Homeric was started by a German, Wilhelm Morsbach, who had been born on 8 July 1895. He had worked in the scissors trade in Germany, but left due to political changes. By 1931, he had established Steelblank Co in Sheffield for manufacturing safety-razor blade blanks. In 1932, Morsbach registered Steel Blanks Ltd, with £500 capital; and in the following year established Homeric Cutlery Co Ltd (capital £100).
