John Eadon, a scissor smith, was baptised in Ecclesfield on 14 October 1759 (Hall, 1915). He was the son of John Eadon and Hannah. His father was master of the Free Writing School in Sheffield. He was apprenticed to Joshua Fowler, a scissor smith, in 1775, and was then apprenticed briefly to Joseph Bailey. Eadon was granted his Freedom in 1782. In 1775, his sister, Mary, had married Bailey.
