In 1811, this firm was listed as a merchant and factor in Spital Hill. The partners – Jonathan and George Hobson – had worked with the Sorbys. Hobson’s warehouse was at the foot of Spital Hill, near the Wicker, and the enterprise was listed until 1818. Jonathan Hobson, a merchant, was bankrupt in 1817, and the Spital Hill business apparently ended. But other ‘Jonathan Hobsons’ were active at this time and the picture is confusing.
