Bernard Noyland (c. 1798-1875), who was born in Ireland, was a cutlery and hardware dealer in Westbar, Sheffield, by 1841. In 1849, Noyland ran a full-page directory advertisement, which listed ‘cheap wholesale cutlery’ of every variety, including edge tools and Britannia wares. The enterprise had offices in London, Birmingham and Wolverhampton, and promised export orders completed at the shortest notice.
