Thomas Peckett was born in Sheffield in about 1824, the son of Timothy Peckett and his wife Elizabeth. Timothy was a stone mason, who when he died in 1873 was described as a builder, Butchers’ Works, Penistone Road. Thomas was apprenticed as a razor smith, but he later specialised in hafting razors.
