Frank Womersley was born in 1875, the son of Stephen & Emma Womersley. The 1871 census lists the family living in Clarence Street; Stephen was employed as a Brass Turner (later to become a Bank Messenger) and Emma a Dress Maker. By 1891 the family were living at 38 Sharrow Street, Frank, aged 16, was working as a Clerk at a steel manufacturer. Ten years later Frank (then 26) along with his younger brother George William Wormsley (22) were both listed as Quality Managers living at 285 London Road with their parents. The 1911 census includes Frank, now married to Elizabeth Green working as a Book Keeper in a cutlery company and living at 103 South View Road, he died in 1933 aged 58; no probate was found.
Frank's brother, George William was listed in several local Directories, including as a Manager (1905), a Cutlery Manager (1911) and finally as a Cutlery Manufacturer with Montford, Womersley & Co (1925), he also appears to have been active in several local activities e.g. the Abbeydale Amateur Operatic Society. Their father, Stephen, died in 1921, leaving the sum of £1183 0s 7d. The executors were Frank's sister and brother i.e. Alice and George William.
The 'FW' mark on the knife was also registered as a silver mark by Frank Wood (1928) Ltd, however no link has been found between the two companies.
