Probably John Richard Capps born about 1895, the son of Peter Capps a partner in Smart & Capps traction engine owners and general engineers. The 1911 census lists the family living at 29 Short Street, Carbrook with John employed as a Steel Turner. By the time the 1939 register was taken, i.e. as WW II began, John was living at 360 Sheffield Road, Tinsley with his wife Francis Ellen Capps nee Billcliff who he married in 1923. John's occupation was 'market man and credit agent'. Sheffield Directories between 1925 and 1948 list John working as a travelling draper, home addresses 115 Dundas Road (1925-1929), 30 Sheffield Road (1931-1935) and 29 Hastings Road, Millhouses (1944-1948). John's wife, Frances died in 1951 probate was valued at £1,678 0s 9d and granted to John Richard Capps (the elder) market trader and John Richard Capps student teacher. John remained at Hastings Road and died 3rd July 1968 aged 73, probate value £16,047.
