We are not clear whether this company had any link to cutlery manufacture or whether it was using branded cutlery as a marketing tool.
The company was first registered at Companies House on 19th October 1915 and listed as a 'private company with share capital', later becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brown Bayley's Steel Works Ltd (15th November 1948). Under the 1949 Iron & Steel Act the company was taken into public ownership and became part of the Iron and Steel Corporation of Great Britain, this lasted until 20th July 1955 when it ceased to be publicly owned. 27th June 1980 saw the business listed as 'Property Dealing' and being voluntarily wound up.
There is a suggestion, from records held at Sheffield Archives, that there may be a link to Hadfields Ltd, the steel manufacturer. If you have any further information, please share it with us via enquiries@hawleytoolcollection.com
