Joseph Ball (c.1820-1910) was born in Hemsworth, Yorkshire. His wife was Louisa née Staniforth (1822-1889). He was a spring knife cutler, living in Beeley Street in 1851 and employing four boys. The Census recorded him in Fitzwilliam Street (1871), Lansdowne Road (1891), and Grosvenor Square (1891), though he was not listed in directories. He died on 1 April 1901, aged 80, and was buried in the General Cemetery.
