This firm was listed in Lambert Street after 1817 as a manufacturer of pen and pocket knives, sportsman’s knives and razors. The partners were John Webster, Daniel Bridges Robinson (1790-?), and Joseph Sutton (1788-1851) – all ‘manufacturers’ in Redhill. Sutton had been born in Hooton Roberts, near Rotherham. His wife, Ann, died in 1821 (aged 34), soon after giving birth to their son, Joseph (1821-1891). The Suttons were Wesleyans. In 1823, Robinson withdrew. Webster & Sutton continued in Lambert Street and by 1837 also had an address in Fargate. In 1838, Webster and Sutton split. Webster, trading in Lambert Street, was insolvent in 1843. In the Census (1851), Sutton was a cutlery manufacturer/dealer in Fargate. He died on 28 August 1851, aged 63. His will left legacies to his housekeeper, Mary Greenwood, and Joseph Jun. He closed the Fargate office and became a Wesleyan minister.
