John Wild (c.1787-1840) appeared in directories between the mid-1820s and early 1830s. He was listed at Pond Hill as a manufacturer of table knives, scissors, razors, shoe knives, and awl blades. He may have been the John Wild involved with Samuel Ebenezer Kebberling as a factor and table knife manufacturer at Pinstone Street. Wild & Kebberling was listed in a directory in 1822, but dissolved two years later. By 1833, John Wild was combining his role as a cutlery manufacturer at Pond Hill with victualler at the Brown Bear Inn at Norfolk Street. By 1837, he had abandoned work as a cutler to become the Brown Bear’s full-time landlord. Wild died on 2 July 1840, aged 53, and was buried at St Peter & St Paul churchyard.
