In 1864, Walter Savage & Co was listed at 52 Pond Street, as electro-plater, gilder, and manufacturer of German silver spoons and forks. The founder of this business was Walter Smith Savage (1832-1912), who lived in Paternoster Row, and then Suffolk Road. Also at 52 Pond Street was the razor and pen knife manufacturer George Savage & Son. Walter was George’s son. In 1868, Savage was listed as a manufacturer of German silver spoons and forks, Pond Street, with a dwelling at Paternoster Row. By 1871, Walter Savage employed seven workers. In 1894, W. Savage & Co registered a silver mark from its address, Standard Works, Pond Street. Another mark was ‘ARIZONA SILVER’. Walter Smith Savage, Glencoe Road, died on 30 November 1912. A Methodist, he was interred in City Road Cemetery. He left £7,159. By the early 1930s, Savage’s had been acquired by Frank Cobb.
