In 1851, William Rodgers (c.1817-1863) was living at St. Thomas Street and making blades, springs, and scales. In 1855, he advertised as a brass and German silver caster at 15 St. Thomas Street, ‘late Charles Bower’ (Sheffield Independent, 31 March 1855). In the 1861 Census, William was described as a brass caster. However, he died on 27 March 1863, aged 46, after ‘a long and severe illness’. He left under £3,000 and was buried in the General Cemetery. His widow Harriett, who remarried, continued the firm. After her death in 1868, aged 47, her sons – Joseph and Charles – operated the business (Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 20 February 1868). It was listed in directories until 1871.
