Between 1865 and 1868, Sissons was listed as a manufacturer of table, spear, butchers’, Bowie, dagger and bread knives at Brisbane Works, Eyre Street. John Sissons, a table knife manager, was enumerated in the Census (1871). This was apparently John Sissons, Spring Vale Road, who died on 3 February 1875, aged 38. His obituary noted that his late father, John, had been a Baptist minister (presumably John Sissons, Suffolk Road, who died 24 May 1863, aged 56). Both were buried at Burngreave.
