Jared Yates & Hardesty (presumably George) was listed as a table knife manufacturer in 1818 at 12 Eyre Street. This was probably dissolved in that year. George Hardisty [sic] was next listed in 1822 as a table knife manufacturer in Rockingham Street. He registered a silver mark in 1828 from Norfolk Lane, where he manufactured ‘all kinds’ of table knives, and silver and plated dessert knives. Hardesty is also known to have made silver fruit knives. He lived for a time in Eyre Street, but by the 1850s had retired to West Bank. The firm was not listed after the early 1850s. Hardesty died on 18 June 1860, aged 82, and was buried in the General Cemetery. His son, also named George, became a prominent iron merchant and died on 19 February 1869, aged 65.
